Hand embroidery designs, made to order.

A design is only worth as much as the hands that execute it. Bring a sketch, a screenshot or a half-formed idea, and we will tell you honestly how it will behave in thread on your fabric.

Designs by where they sit

Embroidery is decided by placement far more than by pattern. The same motif behaves completely differently on a neckline and on a saree pallu, because of how the garment moves and where the eye lands.

  • Blouse — neckline, sleeves, back, shoulder and tassels
  • Saree — pallu, border, all-over butti and corner motifs
  • Kurti and suit — yoke, placket, sleeve, hem and daaman
  • Lehenga — panels, kalis, waist and hem borders
  • Dupatta — borders, corners and scattered motifs
  • Gowns and occasionwear — bodice, shoulder and trail
  • Abaya and kaftan — placket, cuff, hem and full panels

Designs by tradition

Each tradition has its own grammar. Mixing them without understanding is how a garment ends up looking confused rather than rich.

  • Indian traditional — paisley, lotus, vine and heritage borders
  • Floral and botanical — the most requested, and the hardest to shade well
  • Geometric and contemporary — clean repeats and lattice
  • Arabic traditional — Khaleeji goldwork grammar
  • Arabic contemporary — flowing arabesque with open space
  • Minimal and modern — a single placed motif, restraint as the point
  • Logos, monograms and initials

Bring a reference, however rough

You do not need a technical drawing. A screenshot from Instagram, a photo of something a relative owns, a pencil sketch on the back of an envelope — all of these are enough for us to work from.

What we will give you back is an honest read: whether the design suits your fabric, which technique will achieve it, roughly how long it takes, and whether a simpler version would look better. Sometimes the most useful thing a studio can say is that a design is too busy for the garment.

  • A sketch, screenshot or reference photo
  • A photo of the fabric or garment it goes on
  • Where on the garment you want it placed
  • Any colours or metals you have in mind

The fabric decides half the design

Georgette, organza, tissue, net, silk and cotton all take embroidery differently. A heavy zardozi panel that sits beautifully on raw silk will drag and pucker on fine georgette unless it is backed and worked with a lighter hand.

This is the single most common reason a design disappoints: it was chosen on a screen, with no thought to the ground it was going onto. We check that first, before anything is committed.

See it before you commit

For anything substantial — and always for bulk — we stitch a sample on your actual base fabric first. You see the real thread, the real sheen and the real density on the real cloth, and approve it before the full piece begins.

Answers

Hand embroidery designs questions.

Do you sell embroidery design patterns or kits?

No. We are a working studio that stitches designs onto garments to order. We do not sell patterns, printed designs or DIY kits.

Can you copy a design from a photo?

We can work from a reference to create something for you. We will not reproduce another designer’s protected work piece for piece, but we can take a direction you like and develop it into your own.

Do you design from scratch?

Yes. Tell us the garment, the occasion and the feel you want, and we will propose a design. There is no separate charge for this on a straightforward brief.

Which design suits a beginner budget?

An outlined or lightly filled motif in thread or aari work gives the most visual effect for the least labour. We will always tell you where the cost is going and what can be simplified.

Can I see the design before it is stitched on my garment?

Yes. For substantial work we stitch a sample on your actual fabric and photograph it for approval before starting the piece itself.
